Blue Cliff Monastery

Blue Cliff Monastery was established in 2007 by Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh to share the practice of mindful living.

Our home is nestled on 80 acres of beautiful woodland in the Shawangunk Mountains, south of the Catskills and just two hours from New York City, but far enough away to enjoy the tranquility and fresh pure air of the mountains. The land has peaceful and meandering trails and streams offering a space to be in touch with Mother Earth.

Our home was formerly Jeronimo's, a family owned resort operating since 1939. It had been maintained by the Jeronimo family who remain in touch with us to this day. Since our arrival, we have updated and lovingly maintained the various residences, transforming them into earth-friendly buildings by adding solar panels, foam insulation, and wood furnace heating systems. Our most recent offering to the land is the Great Togetherness Meditation Hall, where hundreds of family members and friends come to meditate, share, and learn.

Today, Blue Cliff is home to a community of Buddhist monks and nuns practicing the art of mindful living with family and friends, sharing smiles, and supporting each other on our path of love and understanding. It is a place to quiet the mind, look deeply, and enjoy the wonders of life within and around us. Our community shares the practices of sitting meditation, walking meditation, mindful eating, deep relaxation meditation, and cultivating togetherness with one another.
