Resources for Sangha Building
How do I learn to build Sangha?
Books:
- Friends on the Path, by Thích Nhất Hạnh
- Joyfully Together, by Thích Nhất Hạnh
Publications:
- The Mindfulness Bell is published by the Community of Mindful Living three times a year as a resource for those engaged in the practice of mindfulness in daily life. Each issue begins with a Dharma talk by Thích Nhất Hạnh, followed by essays and experiential accounts by practitioners and reports on social work in Vietnam and other outreach projects. Related news and announcements of local Sangha activities. Thích Nhất Hạnh’s retreat schedule, and an annual directory of Sanghas throughout the world, are also included.
We welcome art, photos, poetry and articles about the experience of mindfulness practice in daily life. Please send submissions to Janelle Combelic, Editor, mindfulness.bell@yahoo.com
- A Sangha Directory of all Thích Nhất Hạnh Sanghas worldwide is available at the Community of Mindful Living website: http://iamhome.org
- The Sangha of the United Kingdom has a very comprehensive online manual explaining many Plum Village practices, like how to invite the bell, lead sitting meditation, practicing tea meditation, hugging meditation, the Peace Treaty, Beginning Anew, etc. Go to http://www.interbeing.org.uk/manual/index.html
- There is a Mindfulness Practice Center handbook available from Parallax Press (www.parallax.org) that explains how to set up a non-sectarian center of practice without Buddhist terms or rituals.
- Deer Park Monastery in California (http://deerparkmonastery.org), Blue Cliff Monastery in New York (http://bluecliffmonastery.org)
are also great resources. You can find more information about the
centers at their websites. You can invite monastic and lay Dharma
Teachers to come and lead retreats in your area.
